Safeguarding koalas - Taronga’s Koala Conservation and Research Program
Without intervention, koalas are projected to be extinct in the wild by 2050, but Taronga is actively working to reverse this trajectory, combining cutting-edge research, disease management and large-scale habitat restoration to secure their future. Importantly, this work is deeply connected to Habitat Positive and Taronga’s biobanking program, not only protecting koalas today, but helping to future‑proof the species for generations to come.
Wildlife Hospital Turtle Tanks
Taronga's Women For Wildlife group exceeded our fundraising goal, raising an outstanding $114,000. Taronga’s new Wildlife Hospital is taking a powerful step forward in marine turtle care with the installation of a 15,000L specialised tank facility which will enable our team to care for multiple turtles at once, across every stage of recovery. What makes this impact even more powerful is that our Wildlife Hospital is driven by an extraordinary team, with women making up 87% of the workforce leading the science, care and recovery of wildlife every day at Taronga.
WildEnforce
Women for Wildlife raised $90,000 for Taronga’s forensic project WildEnforce! 15 members provided a transformative gift to the science team whose innovative ideas, research and world first algorithms and technology is disrupting the illegal wildlife trade.
This critical project will put cost-effective forensic tools into the hands of our border security and assist them to better detect and rescue illegally trafficked wildlife.
